I spent a lot of time searching for the best cat litter box in the term of price, quality, and function. Some products made me disappointed because of its overprice cost and poor quality or they didn’t meet my needs and requirements.
Among different types of cat litter boxes, I prefer the covered ones because they show the powerful capacity in odor control and privacy. They also prevent cats from kicking the litter out of the box. Furthermore, the covered cat litter box is suitable for aggressive cats. Some covered cat litter boxes have special features such as self-flushing system, self-sifting pans, and antibacterial surfaces. However, cat litter boxes have different brands, designs, and their own features.
I have tried a number of brands and concluded the 10 best-covered litter box items that are worth investment. I hope that the following information here will help you to make a suitable choice.
01. Petmate Clean Step Litter Dome
One of the best-covered litter box items I have tried and exceeds my expectation is Petmate Clean Step Litter Dome. I love how it is designed with the liter-cling steps that help wipe cat’s paws before they go out the cat box, which is useful to prevent litter from making the floors dirty. Therefore, I can use any kinds of litter without worrying that it can stick to cat’s paws and I have to vacuum the floor frequently. That used to be a big problem for some brands.
Moreover, another feature which made me impressive is its charcoal filter that works effectively in locking the odor when cats “make their business” in the covered litter box.
There is plenty of space inside this covered litter box with filter; therefore, it is definitely suitable for multiple cat households and owners who have a cat with large size. The maker claimed that with the measurement of 21 by 21 inches, this big covered litter box is 50% larger than any standard litter boxes.
There are three colors available for you to choose, including pearl white, brushed nickel, and titanium.
02. Van Ness Sifting Enclosed Cat Litter Pan
Van Ness Sifting Enclosed Cat Litter Pan is the next covered cat litter box I bought when I was on the vacation in the US. At the first impression, I was astonished at its design with an enclosed pan that not only controls the odor effectively but also ensures the great privacy for cats when they “make business” in the litter box. Its wonderful odor control is also due to the zeolite air filter. In some professional and scientific articles, zeolites are said to be good at absorbing ammonia molecules.
Furthermore, the system has two bottoms that are super-efficient if you place in the correct order. There is one bottom that contains litters (I call it an active box) and the empty bottom ( I call it standby). It is recommended placing the sifter tray between two bottoms (the active box is upper). When you want to clean the waste, you just need to pull the active box and pour the waste into the sifter tray. Throw the waste away and then stack up everything back. That is convenient for someone who doesn’t like scooping the litter box. With this best-covered litter box, no scooping at all.
Don’t worry if you have more than cats in your home. I have three cats with an average size in my house and they can share this big covered litter box together without fighting.
03. KittyTwister DUO, Large Covered Litter Box
Some cats like privacy when they “make business” in the litter box; however, they often feel stress and insecure with tight space. One of my cats has that feeling and it has made difficult for me to choose the best-covered litter box for her without wasting a lot of money. My friend who also has cat recommended this and guaranteed that it works for my cat because of the super high interior that allows the enough for cats to stretch out and scratch. It is true.
Moreover, I also found other standout feature of this large covered litter box that makes my purchase worthy. Firstly, the versatile dome can split into two different trays or be merged into one open tray for cats with different size. Secondly, I find the round design easy to clean the box and it doesn’t take me a lot of time for cleaning and scooping. Thanks to that feature, I don’t worry that the litter or waste can be stuck or clogged, compared other covered cat litter boxes with corners.
But the cons is that the extra large size of this giant covered litter box is a little overwhelming for us when we have to find the space in our apartment to place this item. However, if you live in a big apartment, the large size is not an issue.
If your cat likes a large litter box, please don’t hesitate to find more here.
04. Marchioro Bill F Covered Litter Pan with Filter
Made from well-formed high-quality plastic, Marchioro Bill F Covered Litter Pan with Filter is consistent for years. With a cost of $48 that is not an expensive price, this Marchioro Bill F covered litter box is well worth the investment and I have never found a litter box that meets all of my needs and has excellent odor control until I came across this one for 3 years ago.
The Marchioro Bill F covered litter box that is designed with the door and filter should be given 5 stars. These features are responsible for the awesome odor control of this covered litter box with filter and they ensure no leaking when cats use the box.
However, I am more concerned about how we can clean this cat litter box because some covered one made me disappointed in removing the parts and cleaning. Fortunately, this one continues to amaze me with the removable lid that can be pulled for easy cleaning.
This covered litter box with the door is definitely suitable for multiple cat households as three full-grown cats can share this one without problems.
05. Nature’s Miracle Oval Hooded Flip Top Litter Box
Don’t listen to the negative reviews until you try Nature’s Miracle Oval Hooded Flip Top Litter Box. I bought this one four years ago and I almost felt satisfied with the purchase. The box has the lower front; therefore, kittens and old cats can find easy to get in. The high back and spacious room inside the box give convenience for cats to stretch out and feel no stress when they are inside. Besides, the easy-to-use front opening and non-stick surface ensure easy cleaning. Therefore, cat owners no longer feel overwhelming when they have to scoop or clean the litter box after cats use.
But what I love about this covered litter box is that it has the powerful odor control that you can not find in any litter boxes. The maker claimed that Nature’s Miracle Oval Hooded Flip Top Litter Box can control and neutralize the unpleasant odor for up to three months. That is awesome especially when I have to be away for a few days and don’t have time to scoop the waste in the litter box.
06. AmazonBasics Hooded Cat Litter Box
The wonderful thing Amazon Basics have done for this hooded covered litter box is that it is designed with the snap-on hood that provides great privacy and keeps the odor inside. Furthermore, this hood can be lifted up for easy cleaning.
I think the maker is right when making this covered litter box from the polypropylene plastic that is resistant to odor and easy to clean. I just need a wet clean tower to wipe the waste and mess in the litter box.
The door aims to keep the odor inside but it can swing; therefore, cats can go in and out easily. Moreover, with the top handle, you can carry it with you when you have to move it to the new place or into your new house. But it is inconvenient for traveling with cats due to the large size and sturdy construction. If you want something that helps you travel with your cats, you should look for other cat litter boxes.
Some people say it is a cheap covered litter box (an AmazonBasics Hooded Cat Litter Box costs you about $20) but with the great values and good quality that I have experienced and found out, I think it is definitely worth investing. If you want something indestructible and high quality, just spend more money.
07. Petmate Booda Dome Litter Box
Petmate Booda Dome Litter Box – one of the covered litter boxes for small spaces that I spent time on testing has a unique design for small cats and kittens. Although it is too small for a cat over 10lbs, small cats and kitten can use it comfortably. Furthermore, what I really like small covered litter box is that it doesn’t take up too much space when you find the spot to put it in your tiny apartment.
Another feature that makes me want to purchase is its raised entrance that keeps litter inside the box without scattering on the floor when cats go out the box. The charcoal filter has done a great job in controlling the odor while the design with no corner and rounded pan makes it easier than cleaning, compared with rectangular boxes.
I really love the titanium color that fits well with my home décor. Besides titanium, you can find other attractive colors that are made to be suitable for different décor.
08. New Age Pet ecoFlex Litter Loo, Litter Box Cover
New Age Pet has introduced their jumbo covered litter box with advanced features and modern technology that is suitable for busy cat owners who don’t have time to scoop or clean the litter box. The New Age Pet ecoFlex Jumbo Litter Loo, Litter Box is designed with self-cleaning and automatic litter pans; therefore, there is no scooping and cleaning at all.
Although it has sturdy and complicated construction, the assembling process takes you 5 minutes only if you follow the instruction inside the package. Don’t worry that waste and urine can be absorbed into this item because it is made from heavy high-quality plastic that ensures no absorption. Therefore, you can use this covered litter box for years after years and it will be still in a good condition.
The cost is not affordable for everyone (ranging $120 – $130); however, in my opinion, it is a great price and the product is worth investment. You can not buy something that allows self-cleaning and no-scoping at a very cheap price. If you can, it may be a useless item.
09. Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box
I found most self-cleaning litter boxes have the low longevity and power issues while requiring expensive crystal packs and recurring charges, I decided to change it with this semi-automated Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. That proved I have done the great thing. With the simple design, it is easy to use and assemble that takes you a few minutes to finish. Thanks to the clips and inner grill pieces, it has none of the problems I reported. When your cat “make the business” in, this box will roll and scoop itself, which needs 15 seconds only for each rolling circle. All I have to do is sweep the box every 2-3 days.
Furthermore, it is made from high-quality sturdy plastic; therefore, it won’t be bent or damaged even when your cat climbs on the top. Its special design and construction aim to increase the privacy that many cats prefer and reduce the dust that is a big problem for some other litter boxes.
Moreover, the thing I like about this item is its affordable cost (about $25) while the automatic cat litter boxes always come at an expensive price.
The problem is that it can be used with clumping cat litter only. And you can not use different types of cat litter if you own the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. That limits our choice. I wish Omega Paw can do some improvements.
10. Favorite Portable Side Enter Covered Cat Litter Box
As one of my cats is now 13 years old and he doesn’t like to squat when he pee, cleaning his urine on the floor is my hard job and I wish I would have found this covered litter box sooner. This is because using other items, the urine gets seeping through the cracks and clips that make the box and floor messy.
But it is not for this awesome narrow covered litter box. Using this best-covered litter box, my cat can raise his urine as high as he can. Even on some occasions, his urine hits the clasps and seam of this box but there is no problem at all. It is maybe due to the very long and strong seams.
Furthermore, it has the XL size with plenty of room inside; therefore, it is suitable for extra large cats. The only con is that there is no filter for odor control but it has a door flap that can keep any unpleasant smelling inside the box.
The cost of about $50 – $55 isn’t affordable for everyone. But if you have a nonsquatter cat, you should spend extra money on this XL covered litter box. Believe me, that will not make you disappointed.
Conclusion
Sometimes, finding the best-covered litter box is a difficult job especially when you have no clues. Now, I have introduced to you 10 amazing covered litter box brands that will make your purchase investment worth. All you need to do is considering all the cons and pros of each product and then making your smart choice.
